Bangladesh’s Juairiya Ferdous expressed her joy after her exceptional half-century led the team to a six-wicket victory against the Netherlands in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 opener at Edgbaston. The 20-year-old opener, named Player of the Match, scored a quick 50 off 33 balls, including seven fours and two sixes, setting the stage for Bangladesh’s successful chase of 140 runs, achieved in 19.1 overs.

In her debut at the Women’s T20 World Cup, Juairiya emphasized the importance of capitalizing on the powerplay overs on a favorable batting track. She credited her aggressive approach for the team’s triumph, stating, “Opening batters have to use the powerplay fully, so I tried my best,” after receiving the Player of the Match accolade.

Juairiya’s explosive innings propelled Bangladesh forward after a cautious start, with her fifty off 32 deliveries steering the team towards victory. Overwhelmed by her achievement in such a crucial match, she described it as a significant milestone for herself and the team, highlighting the immense pride she felt.

Acknowledging the crucial support from her teammates, coaches, and support staff, Juairiya attributed her success to their unwavering belief in her abilities. Her impactful performance not only secured Bangladesh’s win but also marked a memorable debut in the World Cup, underscoring her emerging role as a key player in the squad.
