The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made arrangements for Sanjeev, the father of young cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, to accompany him in Sri Lanka before the upcoming 50-over tri-series. Sooryavanshi, who recently earned a spot in India’s T20I squad for tours to Ireland, England, and the Asian Games, is currently in Sri Lanka with the India ‘A’ team. The BCCI Secretary, Devajit Saikia, mentioned that Sooryavanshi’s parents have been offered the option to join him on the forthcoming tours.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s exceptional performances in the U19 World Cup and IPL 2026 led to his selection in the India ‘A’ team and subsequently in the senior men’s team. His father’s presence in Sri Lanka aims to help him acclimate to the new environment, considering his young age and rapid rise in the cricketing world. Sooryavanshi’s remarkable IPL 2026 season with Rajasthan Royals, where he emerged as the leading run-scorer and garnered multiple awards, has propelled him into the spotlight.
The BCCI is extending the offer for Sooryavanshi’s parents to accompany him on the UK and Ireland T20I tours to ensure his comfort and smooth transition into the senior team. This initiative is driven by the board’s commitment to supporting young talents like Sooryavanshi in adapting to the challenges of international cricket. With his potential debut on the horizon, Sooryavanshi could soon become India’s youngest international cricketer, following in the footsteps of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
