Kolkata, July 29 (IANS) Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee’s executive assistant Sumit Roy is in more trouble as police have served a notice to his mother in another case, asking him to appear before investigators.

Police said on Wednesday that a complaint had been lodged against Sumit Roy at Bishnupur Police Station in South 24 Parganas district. It stated that he had rented a resort to set up a medical camp but did not pay the resort owner any money, prompting the owner to file a complaint. Based on that complaint, officers of Bishnupur and Behala police stations raided Sumit’s house in New Alipore.

Police personnel stood outside for about ten minutes before Sumit’s mother opened the door. The officers handed her a notice. When questioned by journalists, she said she wanted the problem resolved as soon as possible but could not say where Sumit was.

It may be noted that Sumit Roy is accused of selling more than 50 acres of government land in the Salbani police station area in West Midnapore district through brokers by making fake documents. His name has also been implicated in promises of providing jobs to several people in exchange for money in the Debra police station area of the same district. Multiple FIRs have been registered against him.

Police have conducted searches in several places, including Kolkata, in search of him. Even Abhishek Banerjee’s house in south Kolkata’s Kalighat area was searched. A lookout notice has also been issued in his name.

According to police, Sumit Roy is accused of preparing fake documents for more than 50 acres of government land in Salboni and selling it. It is alleged that the money came into his hands. Police have also recovered several fake stamps during the investigation.

Sumit filed a plea in the Calcutta High Court seeking protection to avoid arrest. However, his application was rejected.
