Kolkata, Aug 17 (IANS) The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police has arrested a second associate of Pakistani National, Wahab Alam, having links with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), who was nabbed earlier this month from Habra in North 24 Parganas district, the police said on Monday.
The arrested person has been identified as Imran Hosain, a resident of Topsia in East Kolkata. He was arrested from his residence, a confirmed state police official said. However, he did not divulge the time of his arrest.
Hossain is the third person arrested in the matter, which includes Alam. Earlier, the state STF sleuths arrested Mohammad Izaz from his residence at the same locality of Topsia. It is alleged that Alam, after illegally entering West Bengal via Nepal in 2012, used to stay at Izaz’s residence and the latter was instrumental in arranging Indian identity documents for the Pakistani national.
As per information available so far, besides Izaz, the third arrested person, that is Hossain, also played some role so that the arrested Pakistani national could stay in West Bengal with his forged identity documents and carry out his activities as assigned to him by the ISI.
The STF sleuths got information about Hossain after integrating Alam and Izaz, first separately and then together.
Hossain is currently being integrated by the STF sleuths, who are trying to ascertain the extent of his involvement in the matter and also his other associates working against national security.
Earlier on August 14 night, the STF sleuths arrested three other suspected Pakistani spies, all three being Indian citizens, from the Sahebganj area of the India-Bangladesh border district of Cooch Behar.
The names of the arrested are Rashidul Haque, Nur Nasiruddin Ali and Shafiqul Islam.
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has started collecting information about Wahab Alam. The move came after the preliminary investigation by the STF revealed Alam’s alleged links with Pakistan’s spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The NIA has contacted the Bengal STF to obtain details of the investigation and the information gathered so far.
NIA will shortly interrogate Alam and Izaz, and if necessary, Hosaain and the other three arrested from Cooch Behar.
