Bengali actress and former Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty provided her confidential statement to a magistrate regarding a harassment incident in Bongaon, North 24 Parganas district. Initially, she accused Tanay Shastri, the main accused, of harassment in the incident. Tanay and his associates reportedly clashed with the police during the investigation, leading to Tanay’s arrest for obstructing the process.
An additional charge of physical assault has been levied against Tanay Shastri, as revealed by sources on Wednesday. Mimi Chakraborty’s confidential statement is linked to this new charge. Chakraborty emphasized that her statement aligns with the investigation process and her commitment to fighting falsehood.
Tanay, the accused, has consistently denied disrespecting Chakraborty at the Bongaon event. Chakraborty clarified that everyone, except Tanay Shastri, behaved respectfully towards her at the club that day. The incident occurred on January 25 during a stage show in Nayagopalganj, where Tanay allegedly rudely asked Chakraborty to leave the stage for arriving late.
Chakraborty lodged a written complaint via email at the local police station, prompting police to investigate Tanay’s house based on her allegations. The police encountered obstruction during their inquiry, leading to the arrest of Tanay and his associates for impeding government work.
