BHASHINI’s CEO, Amitabh Nag, highlighted the transformative potential of the open Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) model for millions in South Asia. The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) partnered with Kathmandu University’s Centre for Digital Public Infrastructure & Artificial Intelligence (DPI-AI) in Nepal. This collaboration aims to advance Language AI, multilingual digital public infrastructure, and inclusive digital ecosystems in India and Nepal.
The MoU signing, attended by India’s External Affairs Minister and Nepal’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized the commitment to cooperation in emerging technologies and digital transformation. The partnership will focus on developing high-quality Nepali language datasets and multilingual AI resources. It also aims to preserve linguistic heritage and provide AI-enabled tools in regional languages facing digital extinction.
Professor Bal Krishna Bal of Kathmandu University emphasized the shared commitment between Nepal and India to leverage artificial intelligence for linguistic inclusion and social impact. The MoU signifies a broader initiative to strengthen connections, preserve heritage, and enhance access to opportunities by addressing language and digital barriers in the region.
