Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Singh announced that they plan to request a seven-day remand for Samarth Singh, the husband of the late Twisha Sharma, in connection with the alleged dowry death case. Samarth was brought to Bhopal from Jabalpur after being taken into custody on Friday evening. The Police Commissioner mentioned that initial procedures, including a medical check-up and filing a PR from the Court, will be followed before seeking the remand.
Singh emphasized that strict action will be taken against anyone who assisted Samarth in evading the police during the ten days he was untraceable after Twisha’s demise. He highlighted that if it is discovered that someone provided shelter to Samarth, they will face consequences as well. Providing an update on the events at the Jabalpur district court, Singh explained that although Samarth attempted to surrender at the court, he was not allowed to do so. Subsequently, the police took him into custody with the assistance of the Jabalpur police team.
Samarth Singh had been missing since May 12, following the tragic incident where Twisha Sharma was discovered hanging at her marital residence in Bag Mugalia Extension in Bhopal. Addressing concerns of delay and inaction, Additional DCP Anil Sharma affirmed that the investigation was conducted diligently in compliance with the law, refuting any claims of negligence on the part of the police. Sharma stressed that the police operate within legal frameworks and established protocols, irrespective of the individuals involved.
Furthermore, Anil Sharma mentioned that the Bhopal Police collaborated with the Jabalpur district police to locate and apprehend Samarth Singh. While the Bhopal Police assert that Samarth was arrested at the Jabalpur district court premises, his lawyer contends that he voluntarily surrendered before the court.
