Patna, July 29 (IANS) A major road accident took place on Wednesday outside Patel Bhawan, the Police Headquarters in Patna, when a private car went out of control and crashed into a row of government vehicles belonging to senior police officers.
The incident damaged multiple vehicles, injured the car driver, and briefly disrupted traffic on Bailey Road.
According to eyewitnesses, the white private car was travelling east after descending the flyover near Patel Bhawan when the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle. Preliminary reports suggest the driver may have mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the car to speed towards the entrance of the Police Headquarters.
The car first rammed into the Scorpio belonging to Patna’s Sergeant Major. The impact was so powerful that the Scorpio’s rear bumper was ripped off and its rear right tyre burst with a loud explosion that echoed across the police headquarters complex.
The force of the collision pushed the Scorpio into the Traffic DSP-1 government vehicle, which then struck the Traffic DSP-5 official vehicle. A motorcycle belonging to a journalist parked nearby was also damaged in the chain-reaction crash. In total, three to four vehicles suffered damage.
The driver of the private car sustained injuries to his nose and mouth. According to witnesses, he remained inside the vehicle for nearly 10 minutes, covering his face with a handkerchief and unable to step out due to the pain. Police personnel at the scene repeatedly urged him to come out before eventually assisting him from the vehicle and sending him to a hospital for treatment.
The accident occurred during a meeting of senior police officers inside Patel Bhawan. The damaged government vehicles belonged to officers attending the meeting.
Hearing the loud blast caused by the tyre burst, police personnel and bystanders rushed to the spot, creating a brief commotion within the Police Headquarters premises. The accident also caused temporary traffic congestion on Bailey Road.
Police personnel quickly cleared the damaged vehicles and restored traffic flow. Teams from the Shastri Nagar police station and the traffic police reached the scene and began an investigation.
Police have impounded the private car involved in the accident. The injured driver has been taken into custody and shifted to the hospital for treatment. Preliminary findings indicate that the accident may have occurred because the driver lost control of the vehicle or accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. Further investigation is underway.
