Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recognized Anu Kumari, a key member of the Indian team that secured the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup in 2025, for her significant role in the historic win. Anu Kumari was presented with a cheque of Rs 23,43,750 and a traditional shawl by the Chief Minister as a token of appreciation. She played a vital part in India’s success in the tournament, showcasing exceptional bowling skills throughout.
During the event, Anu Kumari gifted the Chief Minister a memento consisting of a cricket bat and ball. She expressed her gratitude, acknowledging the continuous support provided by the state government to the players. Anu Kumari highlighted the improved sports infrastructure in Bihar, which has benefitted athletes, leading to the state receiving recognition nationwide in the sports arena.
Anu Kumari, originally from Mukundpur village in Buxar district, comes from a modest background. Her father, Sohan Chaudhary, praised her hard work and dedication from a young age. He credited the Bihar Cricket Association for recognizing her talent and providing her with the platform to excel, leading to her remarkable performance in the World Cup and India’s victory.
Sohan Chaudhary expressed immense pride in his daughter’s accomplishments, emphasizing the honor she has brought to their family and village. He commended Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his initiatives supporting women’s empowerment and athletes in Bihar. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, along with other senior officials and dignitaries.
