The U.S. Treasury Department announced that President Donald J. Trump’s signature will be featured on upcoming U.S. paper currency, a first for a sitting president. This decision coincides with the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary, known as the Semiquincentennial.
According to the Treasury Department, Trump’s signature will be printed alongside Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s on the new currency to be issued soon. Treasury Secretary Bessent highlighted the administration’s economic achievements under Trump’s leadership, emphasizing the country’s economic growth, dollar dominance, and fiscal stability.
This move marks a significant departure from the traditional practice in the U.S., where currency typically bears the signatures of the Treasury Secretary and the Treasurer, but not that of the current president. Treasurer Brandon Beach noted that this decision aligns with the milestone anniversary and recognizes Trump’s economic legacy, describing the President as the architect of America’s economic resurgence.
The Treasury has not disclosed the timeline for the circulation of the redesigned notes or specified which denominations will carry the new signatures.
