In Bihar, the police have taken strict action by suspending 10 police officers, including the Station House Officer of Salkhua Police Station in Saharsa district, following accusations of touting and meddling in police investigations. This decision was made after a surprise inspection led by Kosi Range DIG Kumar Ashish, resulting in the arrest of an alleged tout and the recovery of original police case files.
The disciplinary action was prompted by a viral video allegedly showing an unauthorized person inside the SHO’s office, seemingly influencing police inquiries. Responding to these serious allegations and under the orders of the Director General of Police (DGP), the DIG conducted an unannounced inspection of Salkhua Police Station on July 2. During this operation, a man named Satish Kumar was intercepted while riding a blue Pulsar motorcycle near Gauspur Temple.
Satish Kumar, a resident of Bahuarwa village, was found with a laptop, keyboard, mouse, and various original case files and diaries from different police stations in his possession. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Simri Bakhtiyarpur SDPO Mukesh Thakur has been formed to delve into the matter further. Initial findings suggest that Satish Kumar had been operating within the police station premises for a significant period, potentially interfering in investigations, extorting money, and preparing unauthorized case diaries on his laptop.
The activities of Satish Kumar have severely tarnished the reputation and trust in the police department. Consequently, a case has been registered under Salkhua Police Station Case No. 107/26. Satish Kumar has been arrested and charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), leading to his judicial custody. The police personnel whose case files were found with the accused have been immediately suspended and transferred pending internal investigations.
The suspended officials, including SHO Mukesh Kumar Singh and several Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors, are facing departmental proceedings. DIG Kumar Ashish emphasized that the investigation is ongoing to identify any other individuals involved in the alleged malpractice. He urged the public to report any touting or illegal activities at police stations for strict action, ensuring confidentiality for informants. The police department’s priority lies in eradicating such illegal practices and enhancing credibility through rigorous measures.
Further steps will be taken based on the outcomes of the ongoing investigation to maintain transparency and accountability within the police force.
