Patna, Aug 15 (IANS) The murder and robbery of around 60‑year‑old Rajkumari Devi in Nardiha village of Nawada district has triggered shock and anger among residents.

The woman, who lived alone, was found dead inside her house on Saturday morning. Preliminary investigation reveals that valuables worth more than Rs 10 lakh may have been looted.

Several members of Rajkumari Devi’s family live outside the village, while her son is employed in Dubai. This has prompted investigators to examine whether the accused had prior information about the family’s circumstances and knew that the woman was living alone.

Suspicion arose when the door of Rajkumari Devi’s house remained closed for an unusually long period on Saturday morning. Neighbours called out to her but received no response.

After being informed, the police reached the house and found the woman dead inside. The body was taken into police custody for further investigation, while teams began examining the crime scene and questioning residents.

Investigators are also trying to determine the number of people involved and establish the sequence of events leading to the murder and alleged robbery.

News of the killing sparked anger in the village. Residents blocked Nardiganj Road and raised slogans against the police and local administration, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible and stronger security in the area.

There were also reports of arson during the protest. Residents expressed particular concern over the safety of elderly people who live alone and urged the administration to take immediate measures to prevent similar incidents.

The exact value of the missing cash and valuables will be determined after the woman’s family members arrive and provide details of the property kept in the house. Initial estimates put the value of the alleged loot at more than Rs 10 lakh, although police have not yet confirmed the final figure.

A key focus of the investigation will be determining whether the house was specifically targeted and whether the perpetrators had prior knowledge that Rajkumari Devi lived alone. Investigators are expected to examine local information, the circumstances surrounding the house and other available evidence to establish whether the accused had conducted prior surveillance.
