Bill Gates, Chairman of the Gates Foundation, visited the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) Centre at Andhra Pradesh Secretariat to observe the use of technology in governance. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu briefed him on the efficient delivery of civic services and the positive outcomes achieved through Real Time Governance. Gates inquired about various projects like Data Lake, Aware 2.0, WhatsApp Governance, Sanjeevani project, and Amaravati projects.
During his visit, Gates saw presentations on display walls at RTGS, where CM Naidu highlighted the interconnectedness of all government departments through Data Lake. The Chief Minister’s Office reported that Gates praised the efforts to streamline citizen services through Data Lake and WhatsApp governance. Gates also learned about the real-time data gathering through Aware 2.0 for prompt decision-making.
Gates showed interest in how public feedback is collected on government schemes and policies. CM Naidu mentioned the regular assessment of GSDP growth through Key Performance Indicators. Gates was briefed on the use of Blockchain Technology for preserving land records and ensuring transparency with QR Codes. He commended the tax collection system and noted the significant increase in tax collection with the GST system.
The discussion also touched upon the Sanjeevani project in Chittoor district, supported by the Gates Foundation. Gates expressed satisfaction with the project’s operations in Kuppam, where patients receive lifestyle and diet advice based on digital health records. CM Naidu shared plans to enhance public health services using AI, which Gates appreciated and termed as ‘Great’. Gates emphasized the importance of affordable diagnostic services for the underprivileged.
Gates inquired about the progress of construction projects in Amaravati and praised the 30% green and blue plan. CM Naidu elaborated on the ongoing construction activities in the state capital. Earlier, CM Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and ministers welcomed Gates and his delegation at the Secretariat, where the Chief Minister introduced his team to Gates.
