Around 700 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates in Gujarat have won uncontested seats in the upcoming 2026 local self-government elections, as stated by the party’s state President Jagdish Vishwakarma. The BJP announced this achievement after the deadline for nomination withdrawals passed on April 15, securing these seats without facing any opposition. These victories cover various levels of local governance, including municipalities, taluka panchayats, and district panchayats.
Vishwakarma, speaking at campaign events in Gariyadhar and Palitana in Bhavnagar district, credited the party’s success to public trust and organizational strength. He noted that opposition parties either withdrew from the race or failed to present strong candidates against the BJP. According to Vishwakarma, the Congress party lacks vision and mission, focusing solely on misleading the public.
The BJP leader emphasized the party’s commitment to development, contrasting it with the opposition’s negative campaigning. Vishwakarma highlighted the improvements in Saurashtra region under the BJP government, such as widespread access to tap water and consistent electricity supply. He criticized opposition legislators for not addressing public concerns in the Assembly and spreading misinformation on social media.
