The BJP asserted that the situation in Beldanga, West Bengal, marked a breakdown of law and order following the arrival of a migrant worker’s body allegedly killed in Jharkhand. Tension, blockades, and stone-pelting have paralyzed normal life as protesters obstructed National Highways and railway tracks. Reports indicated widespread stone-pelting on vehicles and trains in the area.
Amit Malviya, BJP’s Information Technology Cell chief for West Bengal, highlighted the chaos in Beldanga, Murshidabad district. He criticized the ruling Trinamool Congress, alleging that hooligans with political backing were causing disruption. Malviya emphasized the lack of police intervention despite the ongoing disturbances, leaving passengers stranded without basic necessities.
The deceased worker, Alauddin Sheikh, aged 36, hailed from Sujarpur-Kamarpur village panchayat in Beldanga, Murshidabad. He worked as a street hawker in Jharkhand and was found dead in his rented room. While Jharkhand Police reported suicide, Sheikh’s family believed he was lynched before being hanged. The incident has fueled tensions and accusations in the region.
