The Karnataka BJP criticized the Congress government for the violence that erupted during the Kara Hunnime festival celebrations in Haveri district. The BJP alleged that the government’s “appeasement politics” had emboldened communal elements, creating an atmosphere where Hindus felt insecure celebrating their traditional festivals. The clash, which started over firecrackers during a bull procession for Kara Hunnime, escalated into a group clash, injuring six people in Naregal village of Hangal taluk.
Senior BJP leader R. Ashoka questioned the repeated attacks on Hindu festivals since the Congress came to power in Karnataka. He described the incident in Haveri as “highly condemnable” and accused communal miscreants of targeting farmers participating in the bull-running event during the traditional celebrations. Ashoka claimed that the attack on innocent farmers reflected the deteriorating law and order situation in the state and the growing encouragement of communal elements.
Ashoka criticized Home Minister Priyank Kharge, alleging that the Congress government’s “appeasement and minority-centric politics” had reached dangerous levels. He expressed concerns that Hindus were unable to celebrate festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Durga Puja without fear under the current government. Ashoka demanded immediate and strict action against those responsible for the violence, insisting on the arrest of all involved in the Naregal incident without delay.
