Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar’s expression of confidence in Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has drawn criticism from the BJP. The BJP spokesperson, Shehzad Poonawalla, highlighted a reported lack of acceptance for Rahul Gandhi within the Congress and its alliance.
Poonawalla pointed out instances from different states where leaders have distanced themselves from Rahul Gandhi. He emphasized a perceived decline in confidence in Gandhi, labeling him a “non-performing asset” for the Opposition alliance.
In response to these claims, Congress leader Udit Raj questioned why the Congress was being held accountable for Aiyar’s remarks. The Congress sought to distance itself from Aiyar’s praise of CM Vijayan, clarifying that his views were personal and did not reflect the party’s stance.
The controversy surrounding Aiyar’s comments has caused discomfort within the Congress, particularly in Kerala, where grassroots leaders have criticized the praise for CM Vijayan amid ongoing opposition to the state government’s policies.
