The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, for not participating in the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led protests at Jantar Mantar. BJP accused Congress of seeking credit by organizing a sit-in near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence. A “credit war” is reportedly ongoing within the Opposition, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress accusing each other of “hijacking” the students’ agitation over exam paper leaks.

BJP leader Rohan Gupta, in a statement to the media, accused Congress of engaging in “vulture politics.” He highlighted that despite students protesting at Jantar Mantar for days, Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders were absent until they perceived a political advantage. Gupta criticized the Congress for opportunistically joining the protest to further their political agenda.

Gupta emphasized that the BJP-led Centre is committed to addressing students’ concerns and ensuring their future is secure. He questioned the Congress’ continuous engagement in what he termed as “vulture politics” and their habit of claiming credit for public issues. The BJP leader alleged that while students were protesting at Jantar Mantar, Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi, staged a separate protest to take credit for the issue.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla pointed out that the Congress protest had exposed divisions within the Opposition. Poonawalla highlighted the rift within the INDIA bloc, with AAP accusing Congress of hijacking the students’ issue while facing criticism from Congress leaders. The credit war has split the INDIA bloc into factions, with some allies supporting Congress and others leaning towards AAP, indicating a lack of unity on the matter.
