The BJP has criticized the allocation of Rs 100 crore for constructing an official residence for Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Party leaders accused the state government of misusing public funds and having misplaced priorities. BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Deo questioned the government’s priorities, highlighting the contradiction between the lavish residence project and the government’s claims of working for tribal communities and the underprivileged.

The controversy arose as BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal emphasized the necessity of official residences for public officials but stressed the importance of clarity on standards and expenditure. The proposed project involves demolishing a heritage building at the existing Chief Minister’s residence and replacing it with a new structure. BJP leaders have labeled the project a ‘Sheesh Mahal,’ denouncing it as an unnecessary and extravagant use of public funds.

Drawing parallels with past controversies, the BJP highlighted similarities with allegations made against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The BJP’s criticism intensified as Shah Deo pointed out the contradiction between the Jharkhand government’s claims of representing tribal communities and the poor and the approval of a Rs 100-crore project for the Chief Minister’s residence. The BJP further raised concerns about the project’s extravagant nature and the substantial expenditure from the state exchequer.

The Jharkhand government has yet to provide a detailed response to the allegations, setting the stage for heightened political debate in the state. The BJP continues to accuse the ruling administration of financial extravagance, sparking further scrutiny and debate.
