Ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Haryana on March 16, the ruling BJP in the state organized a gathering of its 48 MLAs and supporting Independent Legislators at a private hotel in Chandigarh’s Sector 35. This move has sparked political speculation regarding the party’s preparations for the polls.
Haryana BJP President Mohan Lal Badoli clarified that the gathering was part of a program aimed at briefing legislators on the voting procedures for the Rajya Sabha election. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that all legislators are well-prepared for the election process.
Some BJP legislators lightened the mood by comparing the gathering to a picnic. MLA Laxman Yadav humorously remarked that wherever the bus takes them, it will be like a picnic, akin to a school outing. Another BJP MLA, Moolchand Sharma, mentioned that the legislators would be staying within the city limits during this period.
Haryana Minister Krishan Lal Panwar emphasized that the BJP’s actions were not about disappearing but rather conducting a mock drill to prepare for the elections. This development follows the Congress’s similar move of shifting its Haryana MLAs to Kufri near Shimla in Himachal Pradesh ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls.
