BJP’s Karnataka unit President B. Y. Vijayendra cautioned that the Siddaramaiah government could face protests if it does not promptly start the teachers’ recruitment process. Speaking at a conference in Bengaluru, Vijayendra accused the Congress-led government of hesitating to conduct any recruitment due to financial constraints.
He highlighted that there are 59,000 vacant positions in the education sector and more than 30,000 vacancies in the health sector. Despite Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s previous plea to fill vacant teacher posts, no action has been taken by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar.
The State Students’ Federation staged a significant protest in Dharwad, with demonstrations held in various cities including Bengaluru, Dharwad, Vijayapura, Bagalkote, and Bidar. Vijayendra criticized the government for its inaction, likening it to being in a state of “deep slumber like Kumbhakarna” and failing to generate job opportunities for the youth.
Expressing disappointment over the government’s silence despite multiple protests, Vijayendra reminded the Congress government of its pledge to fill all vacant government posts within a year. He also referenced Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s commitment to filling 2.5 lakh vacant positions if the party came to power.
Vijayendra attributed the delay in addressing critical issues to a power struggle between Siddaramaiah and D. K. Shivakumar. He revealed that despite approvals for over 40,000 recruitments by the Finance Department, the recruitment process has not commenced, accusing the Chief Minister of making false statements repeatedly.
Former MP S. Muniswamy, Legislative Council Opposition Chief Whip N. Ravikumar, MLC S.V. Sankanur, and Bengaluru North district president S. Harish were also present at the press conference.
