BJP leader K. Annamalai criticized the DMK and TVK for their comments against Sanatana Dharma, accusing them of harboring animosity towards Hindu beliefs. The criticism came after DMK MLA Udhayanidhi Stalin reiterated controversial remarks on “Sanathanam” in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. TVK MLA V.M.S. Mustafa supported Udhayanidhi’s comments, sparking a new political controversy.
Annamalai, in a social media post, condemned the remarks by DMK and TVK leaders, stating that it showcased their hostility towards Sanatana Dharma. He alleged that both parties concealed their true intentions during the election campaign and only revealed their stance after securing votes. Annamalai emphasized that targeting Sanatana Dharma should have been openly declared by DMK and TVK during their election campaigns.
The BJP leader accused the two parties of hiding behind secularism and theatrics during the polls and later disrespecting the faith of millions. He warned that repeated attacks on Hindu beliefs would not be tolerated, stating, “Sanatana Dharma is not your punching bag,” and expressed hope that such remarks would face consequences from the public. The controversy surrounding Udhayanidhi Stalin’s comments on Sanatan Dharma has been a significant political issue in Tamil Nadu, with the BJP criticizing the DMK for allegedly hurting Hindu sentiments.
The recent involvement of TVK MLA Mustafa has escalated the debate, with the BJP aiming to portray both the ruling DMK and Vijay-led TVK as parties sharing an anti-Hindu traditions ideology. The DMK clarified that their criticism is focused on caste discrimination and social inequality linked to certain interpretations of Sanatan practices, not individual religious beliefs.
