Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Locket Chatterjee expressed her backing for the ongoing demolition of alleged illegal constructions in Kolkata. She emphasized that this action was necessary and demonstrated the party’s dedication to eliminating unlawful activities in West Bengal. Chatterjee highlighted that the removal of unauthorized structures in Tiljala was a crucial step that would send a strong message throughout the state.
Chatterjee pointed out that the eradication of illegal activities and corruption in West Bengal was a pre-decided agenda before the BJP government took office. She noted that within just 15 days of the new government’s formation, several illegal constructions in Tiljala had been demolished through bulldozer operations. According to her, this move was significant in conveying to the state’s residents that illegal activities would not be tolerated.
Addressing Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, Chatterjee alleged that legal consequences would be applicable uniformly if any irregularities were uncovered. She stressed the importance of equal rights for all citizens under the law and the Constitution, indicating that no individual, regardless of their position, would be exempt from legal actions if found involved in illegal activities.
Regarding the issue of illegal immigration and directives concerning shelter homes, Chatterjee reiterated the Centre’s stance that foreign nationals lacking valid documentation would not be allowed to stay in the country. She emphasized that despite warnings from the Union Home Ministry and other authorities over the years, some migrants still believed they could remain unlawfully in West Bengal, a situation that would not be tolerated under the BJP’s governance.
In response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of the Narendra Modi government, Chatterjee downplayed the Congress party’s significance in West Bengal. She highlighted the diminishing support for Congress in recent elections and the growing favor towards the BJP across India. Chatterjee criticized the Congress for what she described as a lack of vision and accused the party of causing harm to the country during its prolonged rule.
