Senior BJP MLA B.P. Harish is under the threat of arrest due to an atrocity case following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Special Court for MLAs/MPs. The police are gearing up for legal action as the court has instructed them to present Harish before it on May 7.
A case was filed against Harihar BJP MLA B.P. Harish at the Harihar Town Police Station for allegedly making casteist comments. Consequently, the court issued an arrest warrant against him on Tuesday.
Allegations suggest that a day after the 2023 Assembly election results, Harish made derogatory remarks about the Dalit community. Subsequently, BSP leader Hanumanthappa lodged a complaint at the Harihar Town Police Station, resulting in the filing of a case under caste abuse charges.
In light of Harish’s failure to cooperate with the investigation, the Special Court for People’s Representatives in Bengaluru issued an arrest warrant against him. This action was taken after certain Dalit community leaders visited Harish post the elections, where he reportedly made disparaging comments despite the BJP government’s efforts to increase reservations.
MLA B.P. Harish, representing the Harihar Assembly constituency in Davanagere district, faces the looming threat of arrest following the court’s directive. Harish, the sole BJP MLA from the district, has contested elections seven times, winning twice, and is known for challenging the political influence of the Shamanur family associated with the Congress party in the region.
