BJP MLA S.N. Channabasappa criticized Rahul Gandhi for the Congress party’s partnership with Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), a political party led by a popular actor. Channabasappa accused the Congress of aligning with a leader who had paid respects to the late LTTE leader Prabhakaran, responsible for the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Despite this knowledge, Rahul Gandhi proceeded with the alliance, as per Channabasappa’s statements in Shivamogga.

Channabasappa further questioned the Congress’s approach to terrorism issues, highlighting the party’s historical political associations with controversial figures. Emphasizing the significance of addressing terrorism, he urged the Congress leadership, including Rahul Gandhi, to clarify their stance on terrorism and related matters. The MLA underscored the ongoing threat of terrorism to national security, noting its evolution as a significant post-Independence challenge for India.

May 21 is marked as Anti-Terrorism Day, commemorating the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991, and Channabasappa referenced this event along with the killing of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to illustrate the enduring impact of terrorism in the country. He pointed out that terrorism has been a persistent challenge since Independence, leading to numerous anti-terror operations aimed at addressing the issue. Channabasappa highlighted the human toll of terrorism, emphasizing the importance of robust counter-terrorism measures in reducing such incidents in recent years.

The BJP MLA stressed the need for a clear position from the Congress party on terrorism and national security issues, urging them to address these concerns decisively through their political alignments and actions.
