BJP MP Nishikant Dubey clarified his comments linking veteran Odisha leader Biju Patnaik to the CIA during the 1962 Sino-Indian War, emphasizing his respect for Biju Babu. Dubey stated that his series on the Nehru-Gandhi family’s alleged misdeeds does not target Biju Babu personally, urging against politicizing the issue. He acknowledged Biju Patnaik’s significant contributions to the nation and urged Odisha residents not to fall prey to political agendas.
The controversy arose when Dubey, as part of his series, mentioned Biju Patnaik as a “link” between Nehru, the US government, and the CIA during the conflict with China. This led to criticism from Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik, who denounced Dubey’s statements as baseless and outrageous. Naveen Patnaik defended his father’s legacy, highlighting Biju Patnaik’s patriotism and his role in assisting Nehru in strategizing against China.
Naveen Patnaik also criticized Dubey’s historical understanding and suggested that the BJP MP needed professional help for his comments against a highly respected figure like Biju Patnaik. The controversy has caused discomfort within BJP circles in Odisha, with senior leader Baijayant Panda staunchly supporting Biju Patnaik’s patriotism and defending his honorable reputation.
