BJP MP Manoj Tiwari recently opted for public transport by taking a public auto ride, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s plea to reduce fuel consumption and promote sustainable transportation. Tiwari expressed his support for the initiative by stating, “Responding to the call of the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, I arrived to participate in the programme of travelling by public transport auto.” This move mirrors PM Modi’s own actions of downsizing his convoy to encourage a shift towards more efficient transport practices.
In a show of solidarity with the Prime Minister’s message, various BJP chief ministers and ministers have also taken steps to reduce fuel usage. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has imposed restrictions on official vehicle use by ministers and public representatives, advocating for carpooling and increased reliance on public transport among the residents of the national capital. Similarly, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has instructed officials and public representatives in the state to minimize convoy usage as part of broader cost-saving and environmental conservation efforts.
The trend of BJP leaders embracing public transport continues, with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participating in the “Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan” campaign by taking a Metro ride. This campaign aims to promote public transport as a sustainable alternative amid growing concerns over fuel consumption and environmental impact. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari and Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood have also actively engaged in public transport initiatives, such as taking the Metro and encouraging eco-friendly transport options.
Prime Minister Modi, on May 11, reiterated his call for reduced fuel consumption and increased adoption of public transport and electric vehicles. He also urged citizens to postpone gold purchases amidst global economic uncertainties stemming from the West Asia crisis, which has disrupted supply chains and fuel markets.
