The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal has announced the names of 34 members for its new state committee. Last year, Samik Bhattacharya, a Rajya Sabha member, was elected as the state president. The new committee comprises 12 vice-presidents, five general secretaries, 12 secretaries, and other key positions.
The announcement also included the heads of three affiliated Morchas of the party. The BJP’s national president, J.P. Nadda, arrived in Kolkata on Wednesday night. Nadda is set to lead a crucial meeting of the new state committee on Thursday to discuss the party’s strategy for the upcoming Assembly polls in West Bengal.
Among the notable appointments are former Union Minister Nishith Pramanik, fashion designer Agnimitra Paul, and Lok Sabha member Manoj Tigga as vice-presidents. The new general secretaries include Lok Sabha members Saumitra Khan and Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato, along with actress-turned-politician Locket Chatterjee.
Shankar Ghosh, the Chief Whip of BJP’s legislative party in West Bengal, has been named as one of the secretaries. Additionally, Khagen Murmu will lead the Scheduled Tribe Morcha, while Dr. Indranil Khan will head the Party Yuva Morcha. Falguni Patra and Ali Hossain will lead the Mahila and Minority Morchas, respectively.
A member of the new state committee highlighted that the composition aimed for a balance between old-timers and new entrants in the party. The committee includes elected public representatives and members focused solely on organizational roles for the upcoming polls.
