The Karnataka Unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a protest near the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Vidhana Soudha, denouncing the reported attack on its lawmakers by Congress party workers. Led by R. Ashoka, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, and B.Y. Vijayendra, the protest included sit-in demonstrations with the presence of several BJP MLAs, Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs), and party members. The legislators criticized the state government, particularly Home Minister Priyank Kharge and Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, for failing to ensure the safety of lawmakers.
Several BJP leaders strongly condemned the alleged attack on BJP MLA B.P. Harish, accusing the Karnataka government of fostering a climate of political coercion and violence. R. Ashoka directly addressed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, questioning his silence on the incident and criticizing the governance in Karnataka. He highlighted the use of eggs and weapons in the attack on Harish, emphasizing the need for accountability and safety of elected representatives under the current administration.
The BJP leaders further accused Congress workers of assaulting party MLAs during a protest near the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office, labeling it as a continuation of a “goonda culture” in the state’s political environment. They vowed to escalate their agitation against the state government, asserting that the people of Karnataka would respond to what they perceive as attempts to stifle public voices.
