The alleged gang-rape of a dental surgery student in Ranchi has led to significant political reactions in Jharkhand. The BJP organized a large protest outside the SSP office, urging for quick justice and severe punishment for the accused. Party members expressed dissatisfaction with the police administration, emphasizing the need for a fast-track trial and exemplary penalties.
Accusing the state government of being indifferent to crimes against women, the BJP’s women workers previously held a torch procession in Ranchi on the same issue. Heavy police presence was observed outside the SSP office to ensure public order. City SP confirmed that protesters were halted outside the premises, while police asserted that all suspects were under arrest and that swift and effective measures had been taken.
The incident occurred on April 9 at Gokul Vatika Apartments, where the victim was allegedly drugged during a birthday party. Mohammad Danish, the primary accused, is alleged to have committed the rape. Following the victim’s hospitalization due to severe bleeding, the Ranchi Police Special Investigation Team, with technical support, apprehended Danish and his associate in West Bengal. Additionally, the victim’s friend, implicated in the conspiracy, was previously detained in Ranchi.
An absconding suspect, Shadab, surrendered in court and was remanded for further interrogation. Police have gathered evidence and are striving for a conviction through a speedy trial process.
