The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, for his extensive foreign travels spanning two decades. BJP MP Sambit Patra raised concerns about the discrepancy between Gandhi’s income and the substantial amount spent on 54 foreign trips, totaling around Rs 60 crore. Patra urged Gandhi to disclose the source of funding for these trips, emphasizing the need for transparency.
Addressing a press conference, Patra highlighted the need for clarity on who was financing Gandhi’s foreign visits over the years. He pointed out that while Gandhi’s income over the past decade was Rs 11 crore, the expenses on his foreign tours far exceeded this amount. Patra questioned whether foreign entities, personal funds, or other sources were behind the funding, emphasizing the importance of proper disclosures.
Patra emphasized the lack of transparency surrounding Gandhi’s foreign travels, especially given his significant role in Parliament. He expressed concerns about the secrecy and opaqueness surrounding the funding of these trips, raising questions about national security implications. Patra called for clarity on the destinations visited by the Leader of Opposition, the purpose of the visits, and the entities funding them.
Highlighting a recent trip to Oman in May 2026, Patra noted the absence of details regarding the visit, including the host, public programs, and any acknowledgment of the trip. The BJP MP underscored the need for openness and accountability regarding Gandhi’s foreign travels, particularly in light of security concerns raised by the CRPF over lack of information.
