Restoring Punjab’s industrial and commercial prominence is a key goal for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), according to BJP National President Nitin Nabin. Nabin assured industrialists in Ludhiana of creating a conducive environment for industrial growth alongside agriculture. He emphasized the importance of government policies, intent, and strong leadership in addressing sector-specific challenges.
Nabin criticized the Punjab government for its lack of cooperation with the Centre and highlighted the need for accountability in revitalizing the state’s industrial legacy. He stressed the significance of constructive dialogue for progress and development, emphasizing the role of a supportive environment and robust industrial policies.
During the pandemic, Nabin observed industries relocating from Punjab to Bihar due to the state’s unfavorable conditions for businesses. He underscored the necessity of a sound industrial policy, law and order maintenance, and good governance for industrial advancement in Punjab. Industrialists raised concerns about issues such as law and order, organized crime, extortion, and governance challenges, urging for reforms and support from the government.
Representatives from various industries, including bicycle manufacturing, agro-combines, and rice milling, highlighted specific challenges and called for strategic planning, subsidies, and policy reforms to enhance their sectors. The demand for a “double-engine” government to leverage central schemes for Punjab’s benefit was also emphasized by industrialists.
