The BJP’s recent win in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, breaking the Left Democratic Front’s long-standing rule, is gaining national recognition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Mayor V. V. Rajesh and a BJP delegation for a special dinner at his official residence on February 13. This unusual invitation highlights the central leadership’s emphasis on the victory’s political importance.
The BJP has called all 50 of its councillors from the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Council to New Delhi as part of the celebration. The councillors are scheduled to depart Kerala on February 9 via the Kerala Express train. BJP units in different states will host receptions at stations during the journey, turning it into a coordinated political event.
In addition to the dinner with the Prime Minister, the delegation will tour national monuments in the Capital. The central leadership aims to showcase the Thiruvananthapuram victory as a significant achievement at the national level. The unveiling of the Thiruvananthapuram development document is also anticipated during the visit to Delhi.
Prime Minister Modi has praised the Corporation result as the start of a new era and a milestone achievement. He personally congratulated Mayor Rajesh and Deputy Mayor Asha Nath after the election outcome. The BJP’s victory in the Corporation, with the backing of an independent councillor, marks the party’s first administration in a Kerala municipal corporation.
The National Democratic Alliance’s success pushed the long-ruling LDF to second place, with the UDF slipping to third. This Delhi visit is seen as a strategic morale boost for the BJP ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. It signifies the party’s ambition to translate its municipal success into broader electoral momentum, especially since the BJP currently lacks representation in the 140-member Kerala Assembly.
