Free and fair elections in West Bengal have led to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) triumph in the state, signifying a call for political transformation, according to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha. Following the defeat of the Trinamool Congress-led government by the BJP, CM Saha, along with state BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee and other leaders, celebrated with a victory rally in Agartala.
CM Saha expressed that the people of West Bengal had long desired liberation from what they perceived as years of mismanagement, initially under the Left Front and later under the Trinamool Congress. He highlighted concerns over national security due to alleged infiltration across the border into Bengal, emphasizing the necessity for change.
The Chief Minister accused the Trinamool Congress of forcefully acquiring power in the state and subjecting the populace to atrocities over the past 15 years. He mentioned that the citizens of West Bengal had been deprived of genuine democracy during the Left’s 35-year rule and the subsequent 15-year tenure of the Trinamool Congress government.
Saha credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with freeing the people of the state and stressed the importance of regime change in West Bengal for India’s safety and stability. He anticipated that peace would be restored with the BJP’s victory, halting the use of Bengal as an infiltration route and boosting development under dual governance.
Responding to allegations by the Trinamool Congress that the BJP would interfere with people’s dietary choices, CM Saha pointed to Tripura as a model. Despite the BJP’s governance in Tripura for eight years, the state remains one of the top consumers of fish in the country, indicating a lack of interference in food preferences by the BJP government.
CM Saha, who actively campaigned in West Bengal during the elections, commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP national president Nitin Nabin for the party’s success. Noteworthy participation in the election campaign was observed from various BJP leaders, including state BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee, former Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik, and over 30 BJP officials from Tripura. Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb also contributed significantly as a co-observer during the West Bengal elections and engaged in campaigning efforts in the state for several months.
