The Bharatiya Janata Party’s triumph in West Bengal has been lauded as a significant change by retired Air Commodore Ranjan Mukherjee. He attributed this historic shift to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the party’s organizational strength, and a strong voter-driven desire for change. Mukherjee emphasized West Bengal’s strategic importance, calling it the “nerve center” of the Northeast with a crucial role in influencing stability in neighboring regions.
Describing the BJP’s campaign messaging as pivotal, Mukherjee credited the Prime Minister, the party’s organizational campaign, and the consistent push for change as decisive factors. He highlighted the slogan ‘Palatna hai, BJP Sarkar’ as a major element in the electoral outcome. Mukherjee also noted that the electorate responded with a clear counter-message to the Trinamool Congress’s portrayal of the BJP as a threat to Bengal.
Mukherjee outlined three key factors contributing to the election results. Firstly, he mentioned the correction of voter lists under SIR, which addressed issues like deceased individuals and incorrect entries, removing a significant vote bank for certain parties. Secondly, he highlighted the silent but impactful role of women voters in influencing the outcome in favor of change. Lastly, he addressed the issue of alleged oppression and the ‘syndicate’ system, stating that people voted against this system.
Regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Mukherjee emphasized its importance from a national security perspective, particularly in Bengal. He expressed that proper implementation of the UCC, free from misinformation and fear, would be welcomed. Additionally, he raised concerns about infiltration and national security along the India-Bangladesh border, stressing the need for decisive action to address these issues.
