A tragic incident occurred in Mumbai’s Chembur when a massive tree fell on a school bus, resulting in the death of an 11-year-old student. In response, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has set up an inquiry committee to investigate the accident. BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide has instructed the committee to provide a report within eight days.
The committee, led by Deputy Commissioners Purushottam Malvade and Shashank Bhore, will conduct a thorough investigation into the tree collapse incident near Diamond Garden. Expert advice will be sought, and recommendations will be made to prevent similar accidents in the future.
BMC has taken strict measures, including suspending negligent officers and taking action against the contractor involved in the incident. The tragic event occurred when a peepal tree uprooted and fell on a school bus carrying children from Universal High School in Chembur West.
Following the accident, 13 children were rescued by the Mumbai Fire Department, the bus driver, and local residents. The injured children were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment. Regrettably, one student succumbed to injuries while undergoing medical care.
To avoid such tragedies, BMC Commissioner Bhide has ordered the pruning of hazardous trees and regular inspections. It has been emphasized that necessary actions must be taken to ensure the safety and proper maintenance of trees in the city.
