A body found in Kalamassery has been confirmed to be that of Suraj Lama, an Indian citizen who went missing after deportation from Kuwait and arrival at Kochi airport. The Kerala High Court was informed about this identification through a DNA report conducted by a Special Investigation Team. Lama’s son had filed a habeas corpus petition with the Kerala Legal Services Authority seeking information on his missing father.
The High Court directed the Station House Officer of Nedumbassery to provide the complete case file and post-mortem report related to Lama’s disappearance. Despite being in a vulnerable state, Lama was allowed to leave the airport without assistance upon arrival from Kuwait. An SIT established by the High Court highlighted systemic failures in handling Lama’s deportation and subsequent disappearance.
Following a missing complaint filed in 2025, Lama was reportedly sighted by the public but remained untraceable. The court expressed regret over the incident and instructed the release of Lama’s body to the family. Lama’s son, deeply affected by the loss, expressed distress over the unfortunate events that led to his father’s demise.
