Borussia Dortmund, the eight-time German league champions, are looking to bring back England-born Jadon Sancho on a free transfer from Manchester United. Sancho, who hails from Camberwell, Greater London, and rose to fame at Dortmund, is set to become a free agent this summer as his contract with United expires.
The 25-year-old Sancho, who has represented England 23 times, is currently on loan at Aston Villa after joining Manchester United for £73 million in 2021. Despite Villa’s interest in retaining him, Dortmund is eager to reacquire the talented forward who first played for them in 2017.
Reports suggest that Dortmund’s manager, having initially avoided signing wingers last season, has now approved a move for Sancho. However, Sancho may need to accept a substantial pay cut from his £300,000-a-week salary at United to return to Signal Iduna Park, where he made a name for himself before moving to England.
Dortmund, having freed up funds by allowing the contracts of several players to expire, is optimistic about securing Sancho’s return. The club is prepared to offer him a pre-contract agreement, given his impending free agent status.
