Two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen, Pawan Bartwal, and Sumit showcased their dominance in the Elite Men and Women National Boxing Championships at Gautam Buddha University. The competition, hosting 600 boxers across 10 weight categories for both men and women, witnessed top players securing comfortable wins to progress to the quarterfinals.
In the women’s 48-51kg division, Nikhat Zareen’s bout against Kulsooma Bano was halted in the first round due to her commanding performance. Pawan Bartwal triumphed over Lalit in the men’s 50-55kg category, while Sumit defeated Kapil from Madhya Pradesh in the men’s 70-75kg class, both matches ending in the third round.
The event also saw world champion Minakshi securing a convincing 5:0 victory over Annu in the women’s 45-48kg category. Notably, Jadumani Singh and Amit Panghal emerged victorious in the men’s 50-55kg division, with Singh defeating Manish Rathore and Panghal outclassing Krrish Pal from Chandigarh.
In a previous match, Pooja Rani dominated her bout against Anju, winning 5–0 in the 75–80kg category. Jadumani Singh’s exceptional performance against R Parthiban led to the referee stopping the fight in the second round. However, Lovlina Borgohain faced a tough challenge from Saweety but managed to secure a 3–2 victory in a closely contested match.
Meanwhile, Amit Panghal, a former Commonwealth Games gold medalist, narrowly defeated Priyanshu from Haryana in the men’s 50–55kg category. The tournament showcased a mix of comfortable victories and hard-fought battles, highlighting the competitive spirit among the participants.
