The British High Commission, in partnership with Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, held a photo exhibition on campus to raise awareness about visa fraud and irregular migration. The event, part of the ‘Visa Fraud Ton Bacho’ campaign, aimed to educate students and young travelers about the dangers associated with visa scams. Real-life case studies were showcased at the exhibition, illustrating common tactics used by fraudsters and the severe consequences of falling prey to visa fraud.

Dr. Navroop Kaur welcomed the guests, and Amandeep Grewal, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Deputy High Commission in Chandigarh, inaugurated the exhibition with the traditional lighting of the lamp. Students were sensitized to the risks of irregular migration, such as financial loss, exploitation, and the possibility of a 10-year ban on traveling to the UK. Rajinder S Nagarkoti, Senior Adviser at the British High Commission, addressed the students, emphasizing the importance of staying vigilant and informed to combat visa fraud.

Officials from the British High Commission introduced a dedicated WhatsApp chatbot (+91 70652 51380) during the session, offering verified guidance on UK travel in English, Hindi, and Punjabi. This platform assists users in identifying fraudulent practices and accessing reliable information on safe and legal travel options. Dr. Ekta Khosla commended the initiative, highlighting the role of awareness in protecting youth from visa fraud and enabling them to make responsible decisions about their international future.

The ‘Visa Fraud Ton Bacho’ campaign aligns with the India-UK Mobility and Migration Partnership Agreement, demonstrating a joint commitment to addressing irregular migration and promoting safe mobility. Dr. Rama Sharma coordinated the program, supported by Dr. Ramnita Saini Sharda, the Coordinator of Global Linkages. As a cultural addition, students from the Music Vocal Department presented a “Folk Guldasta,” while the Music Instrumental Department performed a folk orchestra under the guidance of Dr. Prem Sagar and Dr. Gunjan. The exhibition successfully equipped students with crucial knowledge to make informed choices regarding international travel.
