A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel lost his life in a fire at the 77th Battalion camp in Hingalganj, North 24 Parganas district. The deceased, ASI Jyotiram Singh, was trapped in the fuel storage room during the blaze. Despite rescue attempts by fellow BSF members and locals, he suffered severe burns and succumbed to his injuries.
The fire erupted suddenly while refueling a speedboat from the storage room, as per initial investigations by the police. Efforts to extinguish the flames by BSF personnel, police, and residents were thwarted by the fire’s intensity. Subsequently, the fire brigade arrived, managed to control the fire, and rushed the ASI to Basirhat Sub-divisional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Hingalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sandeep Das informed the media about the tragic incident, stating that an inquiry is underway. Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a constable from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) named Kanak Koch passed away under mysterious circumstances in Falta, South 24 Parganas district. Initial reports suggest that he may have fallen from a staircase, resulting in fatal injuries.
