The Budget Session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly encountered significant disruptions as members from both the ruling party and the opposition caused chaos inside the House. Despite calls for order by the Speaker, legislators stood up with placards and slogans, creating a noisy environment. The uproar persisted during the Question Hour, with slogans drowning out proceedings.
The situation escalated when Raju Tiwari, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) legislative party leader, raised concerns about an alleged controversial statement made by Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav regarding former Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan. Tiwari demanded a public apology from Tejashwi Yadav, stating that the remarks had offended the sentiments of Paswan’s supporters and the Dalit community. This led to a confrontation inside the House as opposition MLAs and ruling alliance members engaged in protests.
Members of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) expressed displeasure over the comments, considering them disrespectful to the late leader and hurtful to the Dalit community. They insisted on a clear government response and emphasized that such language against a leader like Ram Vilas Paswan was unacceptable. The heated exchanges also included references to past events, further fueling tensions among the legislators.
The disruptions persisted as legislators objected to the description of Ram Vilas Paswan as “poor,” deeming it derogatory. The party members criticized the Rashtriya Janata Dal, warning that despite their current strength of 19 MLAs, they were not weak and could impact future elections. The Speaker’s interventions failed to restore order, resulting in stalled proceedings.
