At least two individuals died, and numerous others were injured when a bus carrying about 25 passengers overturned in central Delhi’s Karol Bagh area early Wednesday. The Delhi Fire Services confirmed the fatalities, and multiple rescue teams were dispatched to aid those trapped in the bus. The incident took place close to Jhandewalan Metro Station around 1 a.m. as the bus, traveling from Jaipur to Delhi, reportedly lost control and overturned beneath the metro line.
Eyewitnesses reported that two children and a woman were initially trapped under the overturned vehicle following the crash. Emergency responders managed to rescue them and transferred them to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Several other passengers who were injured in the accident were also hospitalized for treatment, according to officials.
Visuals from the scene depicted significant damage to the bus, with shattered glass, broken seats, and detached wheels strewn around the overturned vehicle. Fire officials deployed at least two fire tenders to conduct rescue operations promptly after the incident was reported. Upon receiving the information, police and fire brigade teams arrived at the site and initiated a coordinated rescue effort.
A crane was eventually utilized to lift the overturned bus, enabling rescuers to search for any remaining trapped passengers. Authorities ensured that the injured individuals were promptly taken to hospitals, with notifications sent to the families of both the deceased and the injured regarding the incident. Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding might have caused the accident, with officials indicating that the driver likely lost control of the vehicle while passing under the metro corridor in Karol Bagh, leading to the bus overturning.
Police mentioned that the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination at the mortuary, after which they will be released to their respective families.
