The hearing at Calcutta High Court regarding the Enforcement Directorate’s raids at the India Political Action Committee (I-PAC) office and co-founder’s residence was delayed on Friday due to excessive crowding. The next hearing date before Justice Suvra Ghosh is now set for January 14.
Justice Ghosh had to leave the courtroom as unrelated individuals caused overcrowding by not leaving despite repeated requests from the court officers and case parties. Despite appeals, non-related individuals, including law interns and counsels from other cases, did not comply.
The Enforcement Directorate’s main petition accuses West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of obstructing agency officials during the raids. The ED also requested a CBI probe, naming the Chief Minister a party and seeking an investigation into the police officials’ conduct during the raids. Two counter-petitions were filed, one by Pratik Jain and the other by the Trinamool Congress, alleging the raid aimed to seize documents related to the party’s election strategy.
