Cambodia accused the Thai military of dropping cluster bombs in Banteay Meanchey province and four bombs in civilian areas in Battambang province. The Cambodian Ministry of Defence expressed concern over Thailand’s alleged use of cluster munitions and toxic gas near civilian areas. The Royal Thai Army spokesperson clarified that the bombs were aimed at military targets, not civilians, and mentioned that neither country is bound by the Convention on Cluster Munitions.

The conflict at the Cambodia-Thailand border escalated on December 7, with both sides blaming each other for the attacks. Cambodian defense officials reported civilian casualties, including 21 deaths and 83 injuries, due to Thai military actions targeting locations where Cambodian civilians lived. The ongoing conflict has displaced around 545,000 Cambodians, forcing them to seek refuge in safe shelters.
