Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that India and Canada are embarking on a “new era of partnership” during bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The leaders focused on enhancing their bilateral relationship, reviewing progress in various areas of the India-Canada Strategic Partnership, including trade, investment, energy, critical minerals, agriculture, education, research, innovation, and people-to-people ties. They also exchanged thoughts on regional and global developments.
Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Carney are scheduled to participate in the India-Canada CEOs Forum later in the day, marking a significant moment in the normalization of bilateral relations between the two countries. Both leaders have previously committed to nurturing a constructive and balanced partnership founded on mutual respect, strong people-to-people connections, and increasing economic synergies.
During his visit to India, Carney engaged in business interactions in Mumbai, meeting with Indian and Canadian CEOs, industry experts, innovators, educators, and Canadian Pension Funds based in India. He expressed enthusiasm for building new partnerships in energy, talent, innovation, and AI to enhance security and prosperity for the citizens of both nations.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney before his discussions with PM Modi, praising Carney’s dedication to fostering a forward-looking partnership. Carney, accompanied by his wife Diana Fox Carney, arrived in Mumbai on Friday for his inaugural official visit to India, which lasted from February 27 to March 2.
