One person died and 17 others, some with life-threatening injuries, were hurt when a car crashed into a crowd at a major Pride celebration in central Berlin. The incident took place during the Christopher Street Day parade, Berlin’s largest Pride event, around 10 p.m. local time.

Initially, 16 individuals were reported injured, but the number was later updated to 17, with one fatality and multiple severe injuries. Berlin Police established an information center for relatives to provide updates on the situation.

The police are actively investigating the incident, which led to the cancellation of the event and a significant police presence in the area. Emergency responders, including police officers and medical personnel, were on-site to assist the injured.

Witnesses mentioned that some individuals sustained stab wounds during the chaos. Authorities are looking into the possibility of a follow-up attack after the vehicle rammed into the crowd. A search is ongoing for potential suspects, while the motive behind the incident remains under scrutiny.

Berlin’s Governing Mayor condemned the attack on the peaceful CSD event, emphasizing the assault on the city’s values of freedom and openness. Despite the tragic event, tens of thousands had participated in this year’s CSD parade.
