The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended Tamanna Chakma, also known as Tamie May, in Guwahati. She had been on the run despite being convicted in Mizoram for alleged misappropriation of compensation bills of NPCC Limited. Chakma was captured based on field verification, surveillance, and call detail records analysis.
Chakma, along with 22 others, was convicted by the Aizawl Special Court Judge on May 17, 2024. The case dates back to December 30, 2010, when the CBI initiated proceedings against U.P. Mishra and five others for the misappropriation of NPCC Limited’s compensation bills. After a charge sheet was filed in 2012, Chakma failed to appear in court, leading to an arrest warrant.
The CBI’s persistent efforts to locate Chakma during the trial were unsuccessful. However, after the verdict, surveillance revealed her mobile phone usage. Following a thorough investigation of call records and field verification, the CBI officials arrested Chakma in Guwahati.
