The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has escalated its investigation into the NEET 2026 paper leak scandal following the arrest of chemistry professor P.V. Kulkarni, identified as the alleged mastermind behind the leak. Kulkarni, based in Pune and originally from Maharashtra’s Latur district, allegedly leaked the question papers by misusing his access through the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Kulkarni, the eighth arrest in the case, is now under scrutiny not only for the NEET 2026 leak but also for his involvement in setting previous examination papers. The investigation is expanding to include his role in the alleged NEET 2024 paper leak and other related incidents.
The probe is focusing on the “Latur pattern” of NEET preparation and coaching, with authorities examining possible links between coaching networks, exam setters, and agents across Maharashtra. Kulkarni, who ran private coaching classes in Pune, is suspected of orchestrating the leak operation with his associate Manisha Waghmare through a coordinated network.
Senior police officials revealed that Kulkarni’s extensive access to student data facilitated the operation, with suspicions that he shared this information with Waghmare and other network members. The scandal has cast a shadow over the integrity of the medical entrance examination system and raised concerns about the influence of organized criminal networks on competitive exams.
