The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated an investigation into illegal drug manufacturing involving two companies in Puducherry. Three individuals, including Vivek Venkatesan from Amman Pharma and A.K. Rana from Meenakshi Pharma, have been booked by the CBI. The FIR includes charges such as criminal conspiracy, adulteration of drugs, and illegal sale of drugs.
The case was transferred to the CBI based on a recommendation from the Puducherry government’s home department. The investigation, previously handled by the Puducherry Crime Branch, has now been re-registered as Case RC-2182026A0003 by the CBI. The Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry approved the investigation into criminal cases related to illegal drug activities in specific areas of the Union Territory.
The Puducherry government requested a CBI probe citing potential inter-State criminal networks involved in illegal drug activities. The government highlighted the need for specialized expertise, financial investigation capabilities, and inter-State coordination, which the CBI can provide. The investigation is expected to uncover complex supply chains and financial transactions related to illegal drug manufacturing and distribution.
